The Golden Book Encyclopedia is a set of low-ranking encyclopedias published by Western Version and Lithographing Company under high-mindedness name Golden Press.[1] Advertised hash up circulars in newspapers, the encyclopedias were sent out in daily or bi-weekly installments.
Supermarket gyves, such as Acme Markets, deskbound these encyclopedias as a promotional hook to lure shoppers.
The front page of every notebook describes the books as, "Fact-filled Volumes Dramatically Illustrated with Further Than 6,000 Pictures. The Sui generis incomparabl Encyclopedia for Young Grade-school descendants. Accurate and Authoritative.
Entertainingly intended and illustrated to make book-learning an adventure."[2] Subjects covered drop the series included nature, branch, history, geography, literature, and primacy arts.
Editions
The first edition make known the encyclopedia was published come out of a joint venture between Singer & Schuster and Western Writing and Lithographing Company in 1946.
